Information on Snowy Owls:

The Snowy Owl is a large owl of the typical owl family. Snowy owls are carnivores. Their
weight can be from 3.5 lbs. to 6.5 lbs. They also have a wing span up to almost 6 ft. On average they can live up to 9.5 to 10 years in the wild. And in captivity, their lifespan can be up to 28 years.

The needs of the Snowy Owls:
Snowy owls need air to breath, water to drink and food to eat. Snowy owls eat rats, mice and fish. They also eat small mammals, seabirds, insects, amphibians and crustaceans (crabs, shrimp etc.) They are known to store food to be eaten later.

Snowy owls are living things because:
They respond because they eat, breath, move (fly). And communicate with other birds.

Where do Snowy Owls live:
Snowy Owls live in the grasslands, the tundra region and in areas with frozen lakes. They can be found in the Northern Canada and Alaska where they feed on rabbits and small birds.

How do Snowy Owls reproduce:

For owls, like other birds, when the period during nesting and rearing their young happens it is most important part of the annual cycle.

How do Snowy Owls develop:
Snowy Owls are usually all white. The males sometimes have spots of brown or black on the head, back, wing or tail. The females are much larger then the males. Only her face part of her chest and back of her neck are white. Her spots are more blackish. Both male and females have small yellow eyes. The Snowy Owls are active during the day time. The Snowy Owls have the greatest average weight of the North American Owls and they are also known to be one of the most powerful. They have sharp talons and black beaks.

How do Snowy Owls grow:
The average adult Snowy Owl can grow to about 65cm tall with a wingspan of about 140cm. Snowy Owls can also grow to more than 75cm in height.

Did you know that Snowy Owls like airports because the wide open spaces reminds them of there homeland, the tundra.
